April in your apiary

April in the Apiary

  • Check stores. With spring build-up a colony can quickly deplete its stores.
  • Carry out first inspection when weather allows
  • Find, mark and clip queens, while colonies are relatively small
  • Shook swarm or Bailey frame change any colonies needing complete comb replacement.
  • Change floors and Brood boxes (if you have spares available) for clean ones
  • Be on the lookout for signs of swarm preparation.
  • Keep records on each visit.
  • Practice making your first Asian Hornet Trap - details on website
  • Compile an equipment shopping list for the Spring Convention!
  • Write an article for NSBKA Beelines! All contributions gratefully received!
