Trees for bees

What types of trees are good for bees?

Many flowering trees are good for pollinators because they provide a large amount of food at one time and in one place. Large mature trees can be like a whole large field up in the air!

Hazel - Common Hazel - Corylus avellana

although wind-pollinated, the male flowers (catkins) produce masses of yellow pollen which is feasted on by many types of bee. It is a very valuable early spring source of pollen for the over wintered honeybees just when the queen will start egglaying again.

Laurel - Cherry laurel - common laurel - Prunus laurocerasus
